WE AREN’T SUPPOSED TO PARENT ALONE.
My Work With Teens
Parenting a teenager can often feel like trying to navigate a field of land mines. Today’s world is vastly different than the one we knew growing up—things are moving and changing faster than we adults can comprehend. I am acutely aware this may be your first time having to face these types of scary challenges with your son or daughter. Let me assure you, it is not my first time. In fact, I specialize in this.
Parents are bombarded with stories and first-hand experiences of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and—one of the most intimidating parts of parenting today—social media. However, I’m here to assure you, although the landscape of parenting has changed, the foundation has not.
I constantly hear parents ask:
- How do I get my kid to talk to me again?
- My son/daughter is dealing with depression. Did I fail as a parent to protect him/her from this?
- I can’t take the fighting anymore. Where do I even start?
- Is it okay to want more out of my relationship with my child?
- I feel like I’m walking on eggshells in my own house. I’m afraid to talk to my son/daughter but I’m tired of feeling like I can’t speak in my own house. Is it okay for me to be this frustrated when I know he/she is struggling?
- I’m afraid I’ve lost my sweet kid. How do I get him/her back?
If you find your adolescent is struggling with depression, anxiety, behavior issues, drugs/alcohol, even apathy towards school, please reach out and find support for both you and your child.
We aren’t supposed to parent alone. No one can prepare you for the unexpected challenges parenting a teenager will throw at you. But you certainly don’t have to figure it out on your own. Use me and my expertise in helping you get your son/daughter back to their fun-loving, quirky, and sometimes annoying self.
Why Work With Me?
I’ve spent my entire career as a therapist specializing in working with young adults. My experience is not solely limited to my private practice. I also have six years of experience working directly with adolescents and their families in the St. Louis high school education system.
- I served as the Director of the Guidance Department of St. John Vianney High School for three years.
- I served in administration for three years as Dean of Students at St. Pius X High School.
- I developed and ran an intensive outpatient treatment program for six years which supported adolescent males struggling with substance abuse and chemical dependency.
My career in education has given me a front seat view into the world of young adults and unique insight into understanding the challenges teenagers are facing in today’s society. What is equally as important to note, is my time in education has given me an insiders look into what young adults desperately wish their parents knew and understood about their lives and how to best support them.
If you’re ready for more in terms of support for you and your adolescent son or daughter, please reach out and let’s start working on whatever they’re facing together.
