Billing & Insurance FAQ
Do you accept insurance?
Why don't you accept insurance?
Several reasons which include:
1. If I accepted insurance I would have to give you a mental health diagnosis after meeting you for only 50 minutes. It is my personal opinion this is unreasonable and unethical. I have no business diagnosing anyone after 50 minutes of meeting them. Furthermore, this diagnosis could follow you and impact your ability to gain access to coverage later in life.
2. There is no diagnostic code for life is incredibly complicated and can be really shitty at times. I am not in the business of handing out arbitrary diagnosis’ for when life hands you your ass and you just need someone to hear you and see you. Self-care is not nor should it
3. If I accepted insurance, your insurance company would have the ability to tell me how many sessions I could see you for and tell me what modalities I would have to use in order for them to pay for it. This is my office, not theirs and no one tells me what to do with my clients because they don’t know you. Additionally, your insurance company would also have access to my therapeutic notes and your overall file which holds your confidential information.
4. Confidentiality is your right as a client and it is my job to protect it. The best way I know how to protect you and your confidentiality is to not accept insurance. It would take a court order from a judge for anyone to be able to access my client files.
